The Wakefield Hotel: Three dishes, two people, one pub.
By Belinda Pappalardo |
Renovation Rescue and other
reality TV lifestyle programs might have worn thin, but
revamped hotels never go out of style. The pub formerly
known as the moon under water has undergone major
renovations, but as far as revamped hotels go, the
Wakefield Hotel has come up trumps. A stylish and modern
fit out adopting the colour scheme of chocolates,
greens, woods, fawns, greys and salmons; accommodates
thirsty patrons and hungry stomachs.
The menu and the wine list had a little make-over too.
Exotic dishes from crispy skinned kingfish and pan-fried
prawns to pub-staples schnitzels and steak sandwiches
were on offer to typical Friday after-work patrons,
however in true beer o'clock style , the Asahi and
Stella Artois on tap was flowing more freely than
Niagara falls.
Exotic dishes and beer aside, my partner and I were
there for the food. Cue; One boisterous pub, two hungry
people and three delicious: an entree, a daily special
and a pub fave. Stomachs will never be the same again.
Dish: Selection of dips
Features: Pita Bread accompanied by tzadziki, french
onion and barbecue dip.
Taste: the toasted pita coupled with three fresh dips
was filling. Try not to eat too many pitas!
Final word: A great start to any meal. You get a
truckload of pita bread and the pita to dip ratio works
out a treat
Price: $9.90
Dish: Mediterranean Chicken Salad
Features: Char-grilled chicken, fire roasted capsicum,
char-grilled zucchini, cherry tomatoes and mixed baby
salad leaves.
Taste: The char grilled chicken breast was succulent and
plentiful, mouth-watering and worked well with the
zucchini and capsicum. The salad and tomatoes were
fresh. Drizzled around the plate was sticky balsamic -
great for swiping a forkful of the aforementioned with.
Final word: Perhaps it was the pitas, but the dish was
unable to be gobbled up! A beautifully presented and
extremely tasty chicken salad at a reasonable price.
Price: $16.90
Dish: Fettuccini pasta
Features: Fettuccini, sun dried tomatoes, chicken,
mushrooms, caramelised bacon and creamy tomato sauce.
Taste: This was the star dish. Wisps of fettuccini
nestled among tender chicken and bacon pieces, backed by
sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms proved delicious thanks
to the creamy tomato sauce.
Final word: Under $20 for a big mountain of fettuccini?
Yes please!
Price: $18.90 |
